ART SERVICE GROUP – CROCKER ART MUSEUM
YOUNG ARTISTS AT THE BRICKHOUSE GALLERY
Art created by Sacramento area students in grades 4 through 12, will be shown at “Young Artists at the Brickhouse, 2011,” a
juried exhibition at the Brickhouse Art Gallery, 2837 36th St.. (at Broadway), in Oak Park, May 7 and May 14,. The show has
been organized and will be presented by the Art Service Group, a support organization for the Crocker Art Museum.
Jerald Silva, a widely recognized and respected Sacramento artist will jury the exhibition. Silva, a veteran juror, is known for
figurative works done in his unique watercolor style. Continuing his enthusiastic support of young artists, Silva will offer
individual critiques for each winner - a unique opportunity for talented students.
“The show is designed to encourage the creativity of local students,” said ASG event chair, Judith Cohen, “by giving them
recognition through prizes and feedback from a successful artist, the chance to share their work with the community, and a
venue to offer their art for sale.”
Public receptions to introduce the artists and their teachers will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Saturday, May 7th and Saturday, May
14th at the Brickhouse. Hands-on activities for families are planned for each reception. Tours of the show during the week,
may also be given by appointment.
The Art Service Group was formed in 1963 to raise money for the museum through its annual Antiques Show and Sale in
October and monthly Appraisal Days at the Museum. Since its founding, members of the group have donated thousands of
volunteer hours and more than $500,000 to support the behind-the-scenes life of the Museum.
ASG members’ efforts have funded art restoration projects, interns who have catalogued the Museum’s glass and master
drawing collections, and purchases of unexpected items such as computers, art library books and a mono-lift (a compact fork
lift truck) to facilitate moving and storing art works..
